Pre-Alpha build is now publically available!


Hello everyone!

How I’ve been waiting to say those words!

Now, don’t let the word Alpha scare you, in this case what it means is that the functional components of the game is there but the art assets are not final and the current implementation may not be the best it can be. But nonetheless, you are free to enjoy what is on display and provide us with feedback! What works, what doesn’t and anything you think might help us improve the final product.

New Features

  • Quick Menu

With a press of the right shoulder button or the Tab key, a menu appears allowing you to quickly switch weapons.

  • Announcer

With a countdown and callouts based on your events, there’s now an Announcer that speaks during gameplay!

  • In game shop

A shop system has been added! At the end of each level credits and skill points are earned that can be used towards unlocking new abilities, characters, and plenty more! Soon weapon upgrades will also be available, allowing you to increase damage, fire rate, ammo capacity and more!

This needs further implementation but the player character earns experience at the end of each level as well to increase their base stats.

Quality of Life improvements

Gamepad input has been improved as well! Most if not all menus should be able to be navigated with either KB/M or a gamepad. (I say most because I’m sure there’s a few holdouts I haven’t tested)

Last major change is regarding damage, the stagger mechanic has been improved. Once an enemy reaches their stagger limit the bar drains while future damage does not refill it until the bar empties.

There’s a handful of small touches too, like new BGMs and animations within the GUI. I hope you’ll like what you see!

Apologies for the silence a lot of irl stuff has paused development on Colony of Souls. But a lot of work has been put into improving things! Slowly but surely making up for lost time.
